WORKSHOPS

Nurturing Independent Learning Through Collaborative Note Taking

Join us for an in-depth discussion of our use of reflective note taking during lessons and home practicing to transform frustration and resistance into curiosity and purposeful learning.

During our workshop, you’ll learn:

  • how to use a few simple reflective prompts during lessons to ensure understanding of lesson assignments and create a practice plan for the week,

  • how note taking during practicing can help build a creative feedback loop to capture student discoveries and questions, which in turn stimulate discussion at the next lesson,

  • how reflective note taking can strengthen communication between teachers, parents and students; help students develop a reflective mindset; and nurture independent learning.

Benefits of using Practice Notes:

  • The discoveries students make while using Practice Notes help them identify, share, and resolve sources of frustration and roadblocks in practicing.

  • Our quick and easy approach to noticing and recording progress during practicing encourages a growth mindset aimed at positive problem solving and understanding learning needs.

  • Practice Notes give teachers a clear picture of what’s happening in home practicing, while also giving students a clear set of instructions for replicating lesson segments at home.

  • Practice Notes are an invaluable tool for helping teachers and parents guide students in achieving their music-learning goals
